Research Area:

My research focuses on enhancing the durability of firefighter protective garments, which are crafted from inherently flame-resistant fibers with exceptional mechanical strength and thermal stability. These fibres, like any polymer, degrade over time when exposed to harsh aging conditions such as heat, UV radiation, and moisture. For firefighters operating in extreme environments, these aging effects are significantly more pronounced. To address this challenge, I am developing an aging model for the high-performance fibers used in firefighter garments. This model aims to predict the safe working duration of the garments, ensuring they maintain their protective qualities throughout their lifespan. By accurately forecasting the degradation process, my research seeks to improve the safety and effectiveness of firefighter protective gear, ultimately contributing to better protection for those who risk their lives to keep us safe.
